The VALOR initiative had successfully swept the region the last two weeks, reaching out to even the most remote parts, often left forgotten by the League's aid. It was why Penelope, the councilwoman in charge of the whole ordeal, was brimming with pride these last few days.

Since her promotion, her days were growing further and further regulated, starting off with the same stack of onboarding work and easing into small visits to nearby gyms and ranger bases. This moment fell into the second category, as the woman bounced off her Corvknight taxi and approached what appeared to be the ghost of a once well built family home.

Patting down the wrinkles of her jeans, the woman walked over to the captain stationed near the mouth of the dilapidated building, sympathy knitting her brows together. "Hello, you must be Annalise, right?" Beyond wanting to oversee today's operation, as well as provide a second pair of hands to the relief effort, the councilwoman had a secondary objective on today's agenda.

annalise henderson . Known for her heart of gold and call to action. Documents of the ranger's latest meeting flowed in with the influx of onboarding material upon her first week of entering her office, and well, Penelope was more than a little curious of the culprits behind the feat.

penelope needs no introduction. annalise knows she's the newest council member and the driving force behind this league initiative. there's familiarity about her that goes beyond just knowing of her, but it evades her like a forgotten word on the tip of the tongue. she shelves the feeling as penelope admits she'll need some direction. "it's no problem," she waves the apology away. "you're going to do great!"

annalise hesitates, smile wavering.

"so, like, i talked to the family and they said they have a pet skitty, so i want to go in there and see if i can find anything."[break][break]

"but this place is probably going to come down soon so i have to be quick — we have to be quick, if you're up for it, of course."

"Sounds like we have to get a move on, then."

Penelope was no ranger -- Annalise, in every capacity, would have to take the lead today. But, still, she felt no need to hold them back from proceeding forward. There was a fire, and there was a skitty that needed to be rescued, and that's that. With a small flick of her wrist, a Mr Rime and Alakazam erupted from their poke balls. They weren't the strongest of pokemon, but if the building were to give in, one would be able to hold off the incoming wood with some PSYCHIC, while the other could easily teleport them back to safety.

annalise's smile brightens. [break][break]in the back of her mind, she had been a little worried about how PENELOPE LIVY would respond. other people would have balked at the idea of entering a building on the verge of collapse for the pitiful chance of saving one pokemon, but there's no hesitation in penelope's voice.

the councilwoman releases two of her own pokemon: a mr. rime and an alakazam. annalise follows suit, hand poised over the pokeballs on her belt. smoothie is her first choice, but a glance at the building makes her reach for a different pokeball instead.
[break][break]
in a flash of light, her orbeetle joins them. the air fills with the steady, low hum of his wings as he hovers beside his trainer.
[break][break]
"right." annalise gives a nod toward penelope before turning back toward the stairs. her face steels with concentration as she takes first, uncertain steps up the staircase. it feels brittle and weak underfoot, prompting annalise to offer a supportive hand to the councilwoman behind her. [break][break]they manage to get to what remains of the front door without incident, but this was the easy part.[break][break]"we really have to watch our step in here," she stresses, toeing the bottom of the door open with her foot. it gives way easily, giving them a view of the home's dilapidated guts. the living room stretches out before them. the charred furniture gives a suggestion of what the room used to look like — warm, cozy, slightly antiquated interior design. [break][break]
"the skitty probably hid when the fire started, so we have to check every nook and cranny in here."
[break][break]
she crosses the floor with slow, careful footsteps, feeling out each floorboard before committing her weight. with her phone flashlight, she bends down to look under what used to be the sofa.

"it could be under something," annalise says as she moves on, unsuccessful. "or inside something."

And with that, the Captain took the reins and ran with it. It was reassuring, as any level of resistance would've made the councilwoman think twice about risking her life. She was willing to take risks, sure, but not without the reassurance of her leader's capabilities.

Gesturing for her two psychic types to follow, the woman took hold of Annalise's hand and gingerly walked up the steps of the building, using every ounce of caution to ensure her own safety inside. Luckily, everything was kept in place while they made their move inside. "Ale," she looked back over her shoulder, calling out to her alakazam, "you think you can try using PSYCHIC to locate them?"

The Pokémon gave off a nod before placing two fingers on his temples, rubbing them in slow, condensed circles. As he did that, she looked back at the ranger. "Maybe he can pick up on something while we look. It's not much, but it's worth a shot, right?"

Not that she was opposed looking herself -- which she tried to make apparent by carefully peering into the different vases around the corners of the rooms, as well as any cabinets she could find.

it hadn't occurred to annalise to try and use psychic powers to locate the cat. she looks back at PENELOPE LIVY , eyebrows raised, then glances towards the alakazam rubbing his temples, then back at the councilwoman with a small, agreeable smile. "def worth a shot! if your alakazam can find it for us, that'd save us so much trouble."[break][break]
when penny opens one of the cabinets, something small, dark-furred and skinny leaps from the inner shelving. it evades any prying hands, but stumbles when its paws hit the floor. it makes a panicked scramble away. [break][break]
"was that—?" annalise's eyes get big. she scrambles in the direction it ran off to with far less care than deserved of this crumbling husk of a home. "we have to catch it!"

Before the psychic energies could lead them to the skittering pokemon, the Skitty made a grand appearance on its own, popping out from the cabinet and dashing across the floor in the great escape between their feet.

She called after the ranger, who instantly launched into action after the small feline. With her two psychic men beside her, the councilwoman kept close behind, managing to block off any crumbling debris from inflicting Annalise during her pursuit of the pokemon.

the floorboards groan and splinter beneath her feet with each step she takes in pursuit of the skitty. PENELOPE LIVY cries out behind her, but she's too scared the little cat will disappear into some crevice to mind her steps. the walls seem to bend inward around her as she runs down the hall, but the councilwoman's companions keep the house from crumbling down on top of her. they've cornered the skitty in a back room. [break][break]
"psychic terrain!"
[break][break]
the house shifts. the charred, fractured wood seems to breathe with each pulse of psychic energy. while the skitty flinches from the sudden, pink light, annalise dares to reach out and scruff it. she turns to penny, the pokemon in her arms nearly unrecognizable. [break][break]
"we need to get out of here now."
